Hi, I’m Joan Thomson, an artist living in North Carolina and I’m eager to tell you about my art and what inspires me. Vibrant color has always been vital to my art since it brings me joy and expresses the joy in my life. I came by my love of color early in life from my grandmothers’ flower gardens and my parents’ enjoyment of color—their first carpet was a beautiful royal purple!

As a voracious reader and studier who writes, I increasingly build words into my paintings and collages, finding greater expression as I combine words with images.

I’m still very much inspired by the wonders of God's Creation; gardening and getting out to the mountains and beaches are a must.

Since interior design was always my “What do you want to be when you grow up?” answer, my creativity is more likely to be sparked by visiting a colorful home furnishings store than an art museum.
